Latest census figures show Blyth's population has grown to approaching 40.000.

The population of Blyth grew to 39,734 in figures revealed by the 2021 Census, up from 37,339 in 2011. That represents an annual increase of 0.62%. 

Although the figure seems a modest increase, it is in contrast to Cramlington whos population remained almost static, seeing an increase of 0.14% annually to 28,072 and Northumberland's second largest town, Ashington saw a 0.17%annual  increase to 28,278.

The population is split 51% 49% with females being the slightly larger number. 

The figures also show that 96.6% of Blyth's population is UK born.

Deprivation in the community is measured via four measures.

1 - Members of a household who are not full time students and are unemployed or classed as long term sick.

2 - Members of a household who do not have five or more GCSE's or their equivalent and have no 16 to 18 year olds in full time education.

3 - A person in the household has health issues classified as either bad or very bad.

4 - The fourth are households which are over crowded or shared dwellings and or have no central heating.

Cowpen was revealed to be the most deprived area of the county with 68.5% of households meeting at least one of the categories used in the census. Although high, the number fell from 75.2% in 2011.

The Northumberland average is 51.5% falling from 56.4% in 2011.
