Blyth Grammar School on Tynedale Drive became Tynedale High School.

This building was closed and quickly demolished in August 2000 when a new school at the other side of the sports field was completed.

The Blyth Academy or Blyth Community College as it was named when it opened in September 2000 is located on Chase Farm Drive.

Could we feature your old school photos here? we'd love to add them to this section. Drop us a message here with anything you'd like to add.

Ridley High School closed at the same time as it's neighbour in cowpen. Both Tynedale and Ridley were combined when the Blyth Community College opened in 2000.

The amalgamation didn't last long and the schools once again became separate entities in 2009.

The site is now part of the South Shore housing development.

The figure, which had stood in the grounds of the school for many years was a representation of Admiral Boscawen. He was rescued after demolition and now stares proudly out to sea from a private garden overlooking the beach.

Wensleydale Middle School

Located at the end of Dent Street, the school opened in 1978. Despite being one of the best middle schools in the area it closed in 2009 after a reorganisation of the counties education system.

The building stood empty for a while and was completely destroyed in an arson attack in 2011.

Delaval Middle School

Opened in 1912 as Blyth Grammar School, this was a fine old building.

Until it became a grammar school in the 1940's, it was more or less a private school as a fee was payable for attending.

Although the school catered for boys and girls, they were taught separately and had their own play areas.

Many of the local children will have learned to swim here as most schools in the area made use of the baths that were added in the sixties.

The grammar school moved to a new site in Cowpen in the 1970's and the building became Delaval Middle.
